COMPTON GOES BREATHLESS AT BRISTOL:
“Bristol will take your breath away.  It’s unlike any other track that we race on.  The first time you make a lap around Bristol, the Crew Chief will ask you how it was, and it takes you a second to answer because you forget to breathe.  Your first two laps on the race track are basically at full speed, like you’re making a qualifying run.  You go out and make two laps and it happens so fast, while you’re trying to figure out if the trucks going to drag, what’s going to hit, what the trucks doing; but it all happens so fast.  Many times, I’ve scanned to the radio and heard Mark Martin and all the drivers, after the first run, the Crew Chief will say “How’s the car or how’s the truck,” and I don’t care who you are, you’re like “Hold on a second” because you’ve got to catch your breath.  It’s intense, it’s fast.  It’s a lot of g-forces and it happens in a hurry.”

COMPTON EXCITED BUT ON EDGE AT BRISTOL:
“Bristol is physically the most demanding race track on the circuit.  Talladega and Daytona are the most demanding mentally; but Bristol will just beat you up.  It’s a fun race track and I love it.  It’s feast or famine.  We’ve run really well at Bristol, or we’ve got crashed out.  You come here on edge just a little bit – excited, but on edge, because you know you can come here and run good, but on the same token, if a wreck happens in turn three and you’re coming out of turn two, you’re going to get in it.  It happens that quickly.”
